English to the core

Just speculating, but is it a mark of my Englishness that my most used German word is 'entschuldigung', which means 'sorry'?

As in:
'I'm sorry I bumped into you.'

Or, my more English:
'I'm sorry you bumped into me.'

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who apologises when someone else bumps into me. Why do we do it?
